    I also promise to do a better job of not forgetting to bringing my own reusable (not plastic) bags to the shops, keep on trying to grow my own vegetables and herbs in the garden (all those slugs made me give up this year…), try only to buy as much food as we can actually finish without it going off, to take shorter and colder showers and to use my car less (this is a difficult one…).
    And I promise not to write a novel next time. :-)

The energy cost of food is enormous: between the energy of large scale farming from the form of machinery to the energy produced in petroleum based fertilizers and pesticides, not to mention the high costs in carbon for transporting produce from far away. I pledge to shop at the local farmers market or specifically buy locally for my primary sources of produce. more importantly- I plan on being carbon free when I go to the farmers market, as the benefits of buying local can be offset by driving an extra trip to get there!
